About this facility

The ENEA-SHIP plant is a research infrastructure used to test innovative materials and components under real operating conditions. Its main objectives are: Industrial Heat: To provide “green” technological solutions for process heat in the industrial sector, particularly for industries requiring temperatures above 200°C (such as chemicals, food, beverages, and plastics). Hybridization: To experiment with the integration of Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) with other renewable technologies and advanced thermal energy storage systems. Materials Development: To test self-cleaning coatings and innovative mirrors (both Back Surface Mirror and Front Surface Mirror). The plant, which enables the testing of innovative materials and components under real operating conditions, is currently suited for the study of small- to medium-scale industrial applications at medium to high temperatures (>200°C). These applications account for approximately 50% of the thermal energy demand in industry, yet for them there are currently no established “green” technological solutions.
