PROTEAS Tower

230 kWthNominal power on target [kW]

About this facility

The Central Receiver Facility at PROTEAS features a tower-based system driven by 71 precisely controlled heliostats, concentrating solar energy onto a high-efficiency volumetric cavity receiver. Using molten salt as the heat transfer and storage medium, the system delivers a thermal output of 230 kW. This setup enables stable, high-temperature operation ideal for research into dispatchable solar thermal power, industrial heat applications, and advanced storage integration. Designed for real-world conditions, it provides a scalable platform for testing next-generation CSP technologies in the Mediterranean climate.
